First Call For Papers

The third International Symposium of the Monastic Institute of Sant’Anselmo will be devoted to the interaction between monasticism and culture. This theme was already addressed at the 1988 symposium, “Culture and Spirituality in the Monastic Tradition.” Over the past two decades interdisciplinary studies have broadened our understanding of “culture,” traditionally understood to consist of paradigms, texts, institutions, and literary and artistic creations. Now the term “culture,” especially when used in the plural, can also refer to more commonplace manifestations of human nature (cultural anthropology) as well as to phenomena that characterize minority social groups (cultural studies).
